The Flickering Light is a film screening series that provide audiences with the opportunity to see diverse selections of independent shorts and features from filmmakers looking for an alternative exhibition venue. Located in Mt. Airy at the historic Sedgwick Theater (7137 Germantown Ave), The Flickering Light is part of the area’s revitalization of the arts in the community. For series founder, Sara Zia Ebrahimi, The Flickering Light offers film enthusiasts and neighborhood residents access to independent films rarely seen elsewhere.
For A.J., the New York rock n roll scene is where he can forget the color of his skin and express himself freely. However, A.J. soon discovers that his adopted white rock scene has its own racial expectations and views of him that cause him to reevaluate his assumed identity of a black punk in the city.
White Lies, Black Sheep is the sophomore feature from independent filmmaker James Spooner. His previous film, the award-winning feature documentary Afro Punk, has screened at over 50 festivals in the United States and abroad. White Lies, Black Sheep continues Spooner’s exploration of the “other black experience” in the predominantly white punk rock scene.

Afro-punk is a platform for the other Black experience, the one we don't see in our media. D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) is the foundation.
