First of all want to thank all of you mughs that wished a brother Happy Birthday this past Saturday. It was very touching. I'm blessed to have another year behind me and enthusiasm about what lays before me. RAWK!
So, I'm here now to let you let you cats know that the preparations for URB ALT @ CMJ are going tremendously well. It all goes down on 10/24 at Crash Mansion. If you've never been to the venue you are in for a serious treat. It is beautiful. When I first moved to NYC it was one of the spots that I had to play. I've put on two successful URB ALTs there but this one will be the biggest of them all.
If you aren't familiar with CMJ Music Marathon it's the College Music Journal's annual NYC festival/conference/party that takes over the club scene by featuring thousands of musical artists within 5 days. It's an honor to be producing an event in junction with CMJ. Let me tell you about all the cool stuff that's going on.
1)URB ALT Feed the Hungry Drive
We're gathering all of our resouces and reaching out to as many people as we can to ask them to bring 2 canned food goods to the show for the evening. We hope to collect enough food to work with two charities that are in dire need of food to keep their holiday programs going to feed the homeless. If you(and your friends) bring just two canned goods to the URB ALT @ CMJ event your door charge is reduced to $5. $10 is already a low cover for the artists on the bill but $5 is basically giving it away. It's a PARTY FO SHO but please also consider helping us with this good cause!

2)The Music/Artists:
Jihae:
I met Multi-instrumentalist performer Jihae on Myspace about a year or so ago. Her strange and erotically charged video for the song "Black Pearl" was the first thing that caught my eye. The bulk of the video happens in a peculiar little hair salon in New York's Chinatown. Check it below and scratch your head happily. Jihae is going to be a MAJOR star by this time next year. She is making all the right connections and the music is sexy good. Her new remix EP Afterthought features among many musicians Lenny Kravitz on bass, lead guitar; Michel Gondry(director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) on percussion; and Brent Arnold on cello, guitar. The website Side One: Track One says "I'll never know how Jihae manages to use her deep, soulful voice and brooding electronic arrangements to make gems like this one, which is honestly nothing short of effortlessly engaging." Jihae is on some other ish and I know you cats will enjoy her set tremendously.
Tenderhead:
Okay, okay, okay, it's pretty obvious that I'm a wee bit biased about Tenderhead seeing as how Singer/Songwriter/Actor/Model Shena Verrett co-founded the URB ALT Festival with me AND I worked pretty intensely on her debut full-length album "Ooze." But don't let those little facts fool you. Tenderhead is the real deal and will be featuring a brand-spanking new 7 piece lineup for the 10/24 show including MuthaWit's own Lou Rossi(guitar). Tenderhead's proto-alternative rockers have recently been seen palling around with the world renowned William Morris Agency. The Audiologo blog declares that Tenderhead's brazen upcoming post punk melodic album, Ooze, "comes out with some burning guitar parts that are fiery cause they're saying something, not just because Verrett has the skills to bring the house down." You do not want to miss this set. Watching Tenderhead's drummer Zack go off is worth the cost alone!
AuntKeke:
Avant-garde performance artist, AuntKeKe's work harkens back to the day when NYC musical artists radiated danger and uninhibited sexuality onstage. I met AuntKeKe on Myspace a couple years back and she has been a consistent supporter of our URB ALT events. Her music caught my ear from early on but she was not performing out at the time. All of you that know me understand that I'm a pretty persistent mugh and have rode many a talented artist until they got back on stage to share their gifts. LOL AuntKeKe's creative background as a model, modern dancer and beat programmer gives her an irreverent confidence that says "If you reject my electro music because I'm not masturbating with long solos on an instrument, then you can kiss my grits (Flo style)." Imagine Grace Jones, Bjork, Katherine Dunham and Melvin Van Peebles genetically grafted together. Right? RAWK!
MuthaWit:
MuthaWit will be debuting several new songs from our upcoming album "Clipping Toenails While At War." We are going to be RAWKING with our septet which always brings the violence onstage. Don't get too dadgum close but by no means stay too far away cause the sweat will be flying while the energy is HIGH. The Wire, London says "MuthaWit are God's in the universe they created and these songs, which you must hear, are their Adam and Eve, cloned to a fallen and disrupted infinity." We're also going to be shooting a couple performance scenes for videos for our songs "Who Needs Time" and "Give It To Me."
