Purple Mag: Underrepresented Indie Culture and Modern Myth since '06.

Background, Submissions, and Focus.

Issue 8 is out now.

Purple Magazine was established in 2006 to serve underrepresented Indie 'Modern Myth' Culture. The focus is heavily placed on self definition and the other Black/POC experience (from grassroots activism, to music, to visual art, to speculative lit by and for POC)

We cover grassroots activists, visual gurus (Ed Marshall (Issue 7.5), Samax Amen (Issue 8), Corinne Stevie Issue 8), and etc), underground artists of depth and purpose (past interviews include Imani Coppola (Issue 3), Muthawit (Issue 6), Brig Feltus (issue 2 and 7.5), and etc).

We accept submissions year round (check guidelines onsite). If a piece can't make it into one issue, it will likely make it into another where it fits the issue theme. Download past issues gratis for examples and digital page flipping pleasure. Print issues are now being converted with our new printer with considerably lower prices. Thx for your patience. From this point forward print issues will be even lovelier and beyond affordable. Downloads will remain complimentary.

We're located at purplemag.com

note:Though grassroots based, we do commission artists when applicable to a project/issue.
Other projects cover/assist with travel expenses (local to the project's location) and offer co-promotion as additional compensation to artists/photographers, journalists, designers, and stylists. We have a growing readership of individuals interested in alternative culture for the underrepresented, who also visit our blog regularly.

Afro-punk is a platform for the other Black experience, the one we don't see in our media. D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) is the foundation.
