About Me
MU$A is known as a great selector, plain and simple. It could be a club or a sweaty little back room, hip-hop to dance music and everything else that falls in between, there is no questioning his ability to read and rock crowds

Born in New Jersey, but raised in Denver, Colorado, Musa Bailey took to music early in life playing the drums, guitar, and saxophone. At age 13 he discovered the turntable and by age 18 he was participating in battles and slanging mixtapes on the streets of Denver. Over the next several years, DJ MU$A became a well-known mixologist in the Colorado club and rave circuit and was frequently asked to open for touring national acts like The Roots, Common, and The Pharcyde.

By 1996, MU$A was ready to move forward with his music career and made the move to New York City. He attended the Institute of Audio Research where he received his sound engineer certification. Then in 1999, he had a chance meeting with world renowned poet Saul Williams at a live audition at the famed CBGB’s venue in Manhattan. Williams instantly recognized MU$A’s talent on the turntables and his defined ear for music; subsequently adding him to his outfit as his DJ and band leader. Williams, MU$A, and the band made their television debut on HBO’s Chris Rock Show. MU$A toured the States and Europe with the poet before returning to work on Williams’ 2001 debut album Amethyst Rock Star alongside singer/songwriter Esthero, guitarist Tom Morello, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. MU$A produced the first single “Penny for a Thought” along with contributing arrangements, programming, and production for the entire project as well as the song “Grippo” from Williams’ follow-up self-titled 2004 album.

In 2005, MU$A returned to Denver and founded Pulse Arts, a non-profit organization that focuses on art and music offering a variety of events and workshops for Denver youth. Pulse Arts is also behind "Shoe Shine", one of the largest sneaker/art shows in the country.
In addition to Pulse Arts, MU$A had a weekly hip-hop night called Refresh Fridays where he welcomed national acts like Slick Rick, Ghostface Killah, Pete Rock, The Cool Kids, M.O.P., Slum Village, Styles P, Talib Kweli, among others to rock an intimate setting at Denver’s Club Vinyl. MU$A continues to share the stage with such music luminaries as Afrika Bambaataa, Glitch Mob, Diplo, LA Riots and others locally and nationwide at events like the Annual Black Ski Summit, Burning Man Festival, and the Monolith Festival. He also continues to spin at NYC hotspots Gallery Bar, Ella, Hudson Hotel and a variety of venues and clubs in Denver. Most recently he has rejoined Saul Williams and has been the house dj for the "Afro-Punk" shows in Colorado and Los Angeles.

MU$A is currently working on remixes and a full album of original music. He recently dropped his mixtape, “TechnoSavvy,” which showcases his varied taste in music and his ability to mix hip-hop classics with '70s soul and '80s pop to newer electronica and dance music.
