Strong Black Woman

I just read CocoaPussZine's last blog post. She ended it with "the strong Black woman is a myth". Amen! We are delicate and vulnerable, too. I immediately thought of an email sent to me by Rosenda. It is so powerful, I decided to post it here, word for word. Take the time to read it, AP fam. Reflect upon who you are as a Black person and how you treat yourself and the Black women in your lives. Peace.

Your age changed on your profile page (or did it?)... Just in case, "Happy belated birthday!"

Keep it right, keep it tight, keep the fight, and you'll be super fly!! Stay positive and remember the great life and love you have around you. It is much easier to weather any pains in life when that is your reality. I hope I have that support system in my immediate environment when the right ones come along but until then.....I truly appreciate the great and true friends, even if I only am able to see and contact you from very far away, like you and El and Stone and on and on and on, in the middle of all our busy lives, the fact you all still reach out to me and share my life experiences in conversation with me and teach me great important things and goals in life, it's the biggest blessing I have, along with my immediate family. Love you, Beya. :)

You’re right, Cocoa. I don’t have to be friends with everyone. It hurts my heart that I hurt you again. I’m not trying to be the best person on AP, I’m just being me. I know that I shouldn’t do this because I might not be understood. What the hell...

I expressed myself openly and it had a negative effect on someone. I didn’t mean to hurt her. I would have never apologized if I didn’t think about her feelings. This time, I was just talking about my life and I hurt her again. I understand. I kno...
