Has anyone seen the ads for the shows Dance your Ass off and More to love? I am not quite sure how I feel about them. On the one hand they are finally gearing shows toward plus size audiences, but on the other hand the Dance your Ass off show seems more like a spectacle for thin people to sit back and point and laugh at than a competion like the biggest loser or something.

More to love has a larger man looking for a larger woman. I guess thats a positive thing showing that big people need love too. I think.

Whats your take?

I have seen the ads, actually by now DYAO has aired a few times, not sure how I feel, they are putting the contestants in some terribly unflattering outfits on that show, I don't know if this is supposed to "empower" them to dress "sexy" or to just give smaller people something to laugh at. Also is the show supposed to be Biggest loser meets Dancing with the stars or Biggest loser meets So you think you can dance? If it's the latter, it shouldnt have been too hard to find big people with dancing ability (I would put myself in that category) instead they all seem to be novices (like dancing with the stars except they're not stars). I think the idea was pretty good but it wasnt executed properly. More to love--I'll have to see ,but Fox has a history of love and dating shows gone awry and showing the worst in people ( like that show with Darva Conger where women were competing to marry a supposed millionaire sight unseen, 'playing it straight' where a woman was dating a group of guys and some were straight and some were gay, 'he littllest groom' which was like the Bachelor with little people which I actually found to be enjoyable but I didnt feel that they were actually being treated as equals, more like just a curiosity for the public). It will probably turn into a train wreck, I expect there will be lots of scenes of people eating and/or obsessing about food, how they can't resist the temptation to eat something, typical stereotypes about big people, also the "bachelor" on this show isnt particularly handsome, on the show the Bachelor, the guy has usually been pretty good looking, I guess they think large women aren't picky. I'll watch it to see what it's like, my expectations are low however. It would be nice if a couple of plus sized people could be included in the casts of the shows like the Bachelor or so you think you can dance, but I know I am asking a lot, we still have to be presented as some specialty act.

I've seen the first two episodes of More To Love and, while I'm glad that they are featuring plus-sized women, I found that they portrayed these women in a stereotypical manner...they seemed needy and in desperate need of this man to convince them that were worthy of being loved. It began to annoy me when someone of these women were crying and whining about they never had a date or boyfriend, as if that was the only thing that formed their identity. It's pretty sad that it sends the message to women that you are nothing without a man.

I found the more to love women very stereo typical as well. I still haven't been able to sit through an entire episode for all the whining and crying. Dude seems like kind of a player as well. He tells all the girls pretty much the same thing. Doesn't he know we compare notes?
