My 7 year old gets to listen to my ipod, although he says he's gonna save and buy one.... he hasn't asked to buy cd's but I have allowed him to listen to any music i currently have... this is so interesting though I want to hear how others are dealing with the mainstream stuff... it is sooooooo scary... a different world, but you all seem to be handling it well...KUDOS!

micha...send her to get her own CDs. my daughter is 5 and as much as i hate it she loves the jonas brothers. the only redeeming factor is she just has a crush...my baby would pick tool over teeny crap any day of the week...and i love it! she does chores and is paid for it. when she wants something its her responsibility to get it. when it comes to gift giving dad and i only do educational items so it works out for us...i dont have to buy those things i wish she didnt want! yeah!

Can I just bask in the glow of those like myself for a second. Its nice to be here. I dont know if any of you have kids old enough to want cd's and stuff but my daughter is 10.I happen to love all things rock, punk rock, what have you.My daughter though, lives for the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. (can you tell shes biracial?)This would be no problem of mine if I didnt have to go to the local record store and purchase these things. Am I a small human being because its embarrassing? I just find myself overcompensating and buying Old clash and stooges records (that i already have!) to save face. Your cool can become completely debatable once youre buying the High School Musical 3 soundtrack, complete with bonus karaoke sing-along tracks.debatable.

I had the opposite issue with my son...He was so quiet as a shorty and he's still the same as a teenager. My 10 year old nephew is also like my son, not agressive and pretty quiet, however my niece (his sister) is very agressive and a in-your-face 6 year old who enjoys jumping, skateboarding or doing anything her brother does (according to my Dad, I was the agressive small child and my brother and sister were the quiet type---must be something about being born last that makes females in my family the ruff 'n tumble type).

Hey moms! did any of you find it difficult bonding with your boys? my son is a year old and i feel like he just so different from what i know. my daughter was the perfect baby. i guess i expected the same from him, but he is nothing like her! i guess what i'm trying to figure out is what i can do to better relate to him. he is a bubbly ball of energy and i love that, but sometimes that becomes aggressive. people keep saying thats just what boys do, but i dont buy it. he doesnt like the things his sister did so im kinda feeling my way in the dark trying to figure this kid out...i love him to pieces but i feel like im not giving him all that he needs because i dont speak male. sistas what's ma to do?!
