Thanks y'all - I just visited his school Monday morning for the parent teacher conference, but I guess I'll have to drop in and peep things out on a more regular basis. I'm reinventing the parenting thing from the example I got, my dad never came to my school except to cuss out Father Caffery when he said I wasn't devout enough to get Confirmed (turns out Caffery was right).

My wife has been a TA for the past 8 years and is graduating with her education degree this June - she tried to explain it to me, but I was still vexxed. I'm going to figure it out this weekend...

my daughter went through the same thing(lunchtime talking), poor kids cant do anything today. i agree with Xiamin - tell him to follow the rules even though its jacked.

I think that's messed up Jah. You're right, it's fucking lunchtime, but you don't want him to be labeled a troublemaker (red). Good grief. Maybe just tell him not to talk in the lunch line, but make sure he knows it's because the rules about it are messed up, NOT him talking...

So my wife calls me at work - "Talk to your son..."

"Why?"

"He's crying because he's on 'yellow.'"

For those who don't have such a system in their kids school, my son's school has a conduct rating system; Green/good conduct, Yellow/one warning too many, Red/you've effed up and you're in trouble.

So I ask him why he's on yellow. I'm expecting to hear something that we're going to have to talk about later, but no.

His offense - talking in the lunch line. He was repremanded.

Talking in the lunch line!? It's fucking lunch time! Who cares if kids are talking? They're outside. They're waiting for some LAUSD cafeteria food and the chance to run wild for an hour! WTF...

I'm kinda pissed. I told my co-workers and they all told me, "Yeah, that's how school is now." Am I wrong? Should I tell my kid that he shouldn't talk in the lunch line?

yeah, she acts like she still doesn't get it. me thinks she just doesn't want to. an older sista told me yesterday that sometimes you just gotta tell them that some things are none of their business... i like that. so, yeah, like you say, XiaMin. i think she just can't-or don't need to know everything...not now anyway. i'll put THAT talk off until her questions are more specific. phew ! glad that's solved! oh, and i'll have to rememba to lock tha door LOL!!

Since you are open and honest (age approriate lol) with her about life and sexuality I don't think you need to explain it from that angle (she will get the sex talks from you for other situations) maybe you can just explain how since daddy travels a lot you like to spend some alone time with him when he's home, and since the are four kids, your alone time is usually bed/night time.

HELP!!! my daughter wants to know why i'd rather sleep with daddy than cuddle up with her at night. is it time for the SEX TALK???? she is 8 and the oldest of our 4 kids) we have always had very open conversations about life, sexuality, etc ( age appropriate, of course) . the most recent being about that " i kissed a girl" song, she's asked questions about it and seems satisfied w/my answers and clear about the concept, which she seemed to grasp quickly. but when i went into the deal about daddy and I liking to touch, cuddle and kiss in ways that we need the privacy of our bedroom....she acts like she doesn't get it. my husband travels alot, btw. how do i go into more detail without "giving TOO MUCH info? i keep stalling....friday nights are our girl time so i told her we could talk then. any & ALL advice welcome!!!
