hmmm one time I used a lime/lemon egg thing out of boredom on my hair and it's stretched my hair out. But I do love coconut milk. ....I might try it.

Speaking of texturizers etc, has anyone ever tried one of those coconut milk and lime recipes? I read on a few hair forums where it's supposed to be an all natural way to temporarily loosen coils. I think it's more of a conditioning treatment for my hair type.

I used a can of coconut cream (or milk) and the juice of a lime, plus a little olive oil. You apply it and cover your hair with a plastic cap for a few hours or overnight, then wash it out. Very messy. It's supposed to have the consistency of relaxer cream. If anything, my hair felt a little softer.....but then again, my hair always feels soft when it's damp lol. When it dries, that's another story.

Lately, I've been using this. Totally not all natural, but I like the results. It's good for freshly washed hair as I'm putting twists in. Acts like a leave in conditioner.

I WANT to buy this because I've heard good reviews. I'm not interested in the Curling Custard because I don't think it will work for me. Plus it's about 30 dollars a jar.

@EOB I tried to texturize years ago when my hair was short. I used one of those 'comb through' kits. It looked cute for a few days because it was closely cropped. I didn't like the stickiness and crunchiness of the gel that was needed for that wet and wavy look.

When I shampooed my hair the next week, it was almost like I'd washed it out....even though I know that's not scientifically possible. It had the appearance of my regular 4b fro, but none of the positive characteristics. For example, as my hair grew out, the texturized ends wouldn't allow my hair to hold twists. They'd unravel at the ends. My hair started to feel rough and brillo-y. I eventually chopped it all off again 3 months later.

Yeah, most people just break it down into 4a and 4b. 4c is like super 4b.

I'm not sure if the curly pudding is chemical. I don't think it is. Only the "silkener" is, I think.

4c? I just thought it was 4a and 4b. ...that hair type thing is confusing.

Speaking of trying to get ringlets: I totally put a texturizer in my hair despite the advice that: a. you should only have a professional do it and b. you should not have unrealistic expectations. I totally did have unrealistic expectations and while it didn't turn my 4c into 4b hair, it definitely made it more manageable. I have my 4c afro (which I love!) and yet I am able to comb it every day without it breaking off. I know some people have strong feelings about any sort of chemicals but I didn't leave it in long at all and I think it's actually made my hair more healthy in the long run.

oooh ok b/c I thought you were talking about everyday moisturizers, not the "curl-defining" ones. as for that miss jessie's stuff, I was tempted to try it for a little bit because I do have ringlets but I feel like it's chemically altering the hair more than anything. I'm not exactly sure though

The hair cremes like miss jessie's and curl custard to define and lengthen the hair. But I heard Miss Jessie's curly pudding is for hair with ringlets already in it, it won't do much for 4b hair. Perhaps curly buttercream does. Idk.

I didn't mean using moisturizers was unnatural or anything like that. :p I was more talking about the curl enhancing products. Some people want their hair to have defined ringlets of great stretch when it's not those types.

Moisture is natural! :p
