I've never brought a Avocado in my life. I've had guacamole, but I've only seen it in pictures.....

What should I look, smell and/or feel for if I brought one?

Cheap & Fast: Lime Avocados

It's late. You get home. You aren't sure if you want to collapse on the floor or order random all night delivery, but are concerned about stuffing your face after midnight and becoming more flabby fear not.

LIME AVOCADOS

1 avocado
1 teaspoon of sea salt
1 lime (use both halves if you like it mad limey)

Take your ripe avocado and scoop out its innards onto a plate. Chop up the bits into one inch portions. Take your lime halves and squeeze the juice on. Sprinkle the sea salt over the whole area.

Take a fork and eat each savory piece. You will be full, but not too full.

Then get your butt to bed, it's late!

((yes i am still at work and this is what I will be eating tonight.))

@ Rosenda
Good one. I used to make my brother fake pizza for dinner when we were little. A round of sourdough cut thinly, spread with tomato sauce, shredded mozz and some basil. Toast those in the oven until you see the cheese bubbling. delish! Apparently I'm not the only "make it into a pizza" person around.

Omigod I forgot another time honored fast food at home.

Pizza made out of anything bread. Pita, bagels, toasted bread, etc etc.
Top with pasta sauce and cheese and whatever and toast in your oven for a few minutes til the cheese melts. Toss on some dried or fresh basil if you have it.

Or pasta sauce and warm leftover rice and stir some cheese in it. Yes, good.

El, you undercover gourmet chef. "And I just happened to have organic shitake mushrooms and bulgarian queso fresco and free trade area grown baby spinach and I sauteed it with garlic ginger and unchemically treated soy sauce." Tee hee. Boyfriend, you sure know how to shop. You used to have my mouth drop and laugh on your food descriptions of what you had for dinner on the old boards. LMBAO.

Or should I say LMHBAO. ;)

Hell Cat, call anything cooked with egg for dinner fast "Frittata" and it sounds so much cuter. :)

What have I had when I am tired hungry and ain't been shopping?

Jazzed up refried beans (either some type of meat or sauteed garlic and onion and tomato if its there) stirred in with leftover rice. I have heard that sort of thing referred to as Congri' in Cuban cirlcles or Casamiento among Salvadorans when it's refriend black beans). Warm it up in a pan and eat. Maybe put cheese or leftover anything on top if you have it around.

And I'm sure we've all done the leftover stale bag of tortilla or corn chips topped with melted cheese and whatever else is in the fridge that's not sweet, and called it nachos.

Last night I had 2 pieces of leftover chicken breast, so I put that, some frozen green beans, a cut up leftoer baked potato, all in some foil, put in some soy sauce mixed with some lime juice and garlic and ginger, folded it up and put it in the over for about 10-20 minutes on 300 - 400. Yummy. Works with any fish you have that is still good too. Or tofu or any other vegetables and serve it over rice if you want.

Oh! when I had a cold coming on, I used to make instant ramen noodles and then stir in a little hot sauce, fish sauce, lemon juice, chopped up 2 cloves of garlic, and stir in an egg. Tastes good and I'd always feel better in the morning.

What else. Er, scrambled egg on top of warm leftover rice. And then mix together some soy sauce, vinegar and or lemon juice and chopped/minced garlic (that stuff in a jar is good for htis too) and pour it on top of everything.

Worst sin at dinner? A bowl of cereal and a handful of chips. Or some chips and a glass of wine. Or a bowl of popcorn and a glass of soda.

Worst sin at breakfast? Flamin' Hot Cheetos W/ Lime and a cup of coffee.
I seriously had to stop doing that years ago. I once did that for 4 days straight and wondered why I had a stomach ache. :)

Cooked plain pasta is great to toss in anything you have left in your fridge.
Sauteed vegetables (either with some pasta sauce from a jar or the soy/vinegar/garlic/ginger mixture), leftover tuna salad, leftover bbq from the place in my neighborhood (good for a sandwich too), leftover anything that is not sweet and tasted good the first time you had it. If you want to you can then add leftover plain yogurt or crema or sour cream to make it a little creamy tasting.

All of the above you can also do with leftover rice and also baked potato (wrap a potato in a wet papertowel or napkin and bake in microwave 10 minutes).

You'll laugh at this one: when we were kids, if my mom had leftover spaghetti or pasta, the next day for us she'd sautee it in butter, and put it on a plate and put grated parmesan or romano or queso fresco or whatever other cheese she had. So tasty and easy and comforting and yummy.

Omigod I have to try that tofu fritters recipe up there TV. I have two containers sitting right now in my refrigerator (I bought it because I was gonna put it in some miso soup that I never made) and I was wondering what I'd do with it.

I am definitely going to make that and see if I can make it taste good too. Thanks. Cause I also happen to have a bag of panko bread crumbs (for the chicken cutlets that I never made).

I have my periods where I love to cook but then I alternate feeling lazy and not wanting to do a lot of effort. :)

Yum! that sounds really good. I need some chorizo right about now.

I've been frying apple slices with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Also, baking yams with cinnamon and nutmeg and throwing in a salad made with brown rice, asparagus and tomato on the side.
I love tomatoes but they make me itch. :(

Here is what I am making when I get home from work (which will be soon hopefully):

Meat Wrap Surprise

1) throw a tortilla in the oven (tomato basil is what i have)
put the oven on 350-400. you just want to make it toasty

2) while that is toasting, take a pan and put a little olive oil in it. throw whatever meat you have in the fridge in there. i have some left over breakfast sausage, turkey bacon and chicken. i am going to stir fry all of that with some basil, salt, chili pepper.

3) after the meat appears to be mostly cooked i am going to crack two eggs over it and throw in a little salsa on top.

4) yank that piping hot tortilla out of the oven.

5) put a layer of mixed green or some sort of greenage in it, put some cheese or any cheese product like parmesan. throw throw the meat mix in there.

6) put some tapatio on top of it all. wrap it up.

7) put it in your mouth.

the end.

Word to the (soy/rice) cheese on chips GhettoPR. Throw some raw veg (onions, broccoli, tomatoes, etc.) on that & voila! It's legally a meal in my book and semi-healthy!

And Jerv, my ass is still intact after years & pounds of devouring guac. Just be even & easy with it...

Nothing beats shredded cheese melted over some chips in a microwave.
