Those are Nashi pear, I call them Korean Pears, because they are the only fruit shops that carry them where I go. I would never had thought to do the fruit thing with them. they are too good to wait to cook to me.

A good soup recipe: this you probably should go buy these things but they are all cheap.

6 cups of any kind of vegetable or chicken broth (even just hot water with boullion powder or cubes is good here)
2 small bags of frozen peas
1 bunch of fresh mint
1/2 an onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped (or use 1 tsp of the already chopped kind in a jar)
2 tablespoon any kind of vegetable oil or butter

Warm the oil in a soup pan, sautee the onion and garlic til soft on medium heat, stir in the broth, stir in the frozen peas, simmer for 10-15 mins. Turn off heat and stir in the chopped fresh mint.

Puree it batches in a blender or in a food processor.
Serve hot. IT'S GOOD.

Thanks to whoever it was suggested this:

I finally tried that cooked fruit thing, cause I had a gang of those big gigantic pears from the Korean market (they are shaped like big huge apples) and bag of apples that I'd had awhile. I cut them up, put them in a pot with 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of sugar, some sliced lemon peel, and a stick of cinnamon, and I cooked til they were all soft. YUMMY!

You know what was the last magical thing with the only stuff in the kitchen?
Thanks to The Man, he cooked some pasta I had, then cut up some garlic, sauteed in a little butter, sliced up a couple of tomatoes, tossed in the cooked pasta, threw in the last of the parmesan cheese I had, and then squeezed in the last lemon I had. Omigod it was so good.

It happened again last week, only that time I also had a bag of those chinese pea pods too. YUM.

I like soul food. For 09, I need to lessen that. Start eating more veggies and fish. I did that a few years ago and lost 30 pounds in 6 months with no exercise. (I don't like to exercise). I cut out pasta's, potatoes and white bread and red meat. I basically ate fruit, veggies, and lean meat-chicken breast, fish. I did have my junk food day once a week. I have to cure the cravings, ya know. But I do love me some spinach. Raw spinach with some raw bell peppers and a little light salad dressing. Or grilled peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms with shrimp or salmon. Mmmmm. So good.

Daniela, that sounds like a Freudian slip. Ha ha.
Mlle de Sade, sweet potatoes. Mm! Mm! They are also good just plain, cut them up after cooking, serve them in a bowl with a little bit of butter, brown sugar or molasses, and pour a dash of soy milk or regular milk on top. YUM!

You know what else is tasty that way? Pumpkin. Honestly that was always my fave part of Halloween as a child. The week before Halloween, our family would go down to good ol' Lopez Market near the Playa Del Rey beach area, and get a pumpkin. (They were always bigger fresher and cheaper there.) Mom would scoop out the seeds, toast them that night and we got to eat them with a little salt. Warm crunchy salty pumpkin seeds are awesome.

Then the day after Halloween, she'd cut up the pumpkin in smaller chunks, boil them in a big pot. Then you put a cooked wedge in a bowl, add a little butter and some brown sugar and pour on some milk, and eat it with a spoon.

I have heard butternut squash is good this way but I have not tried it yet.
