DIY Zines

First off, cool to have something actually well... 'punk' on Afro-Punk that I got invited into. Cheers to Calvin Chaos for that. And second, I'm trying to get a small zine for the youth, by the youth…

ah, and to anybody in the la area, Temple of Dagon is playing Friday night at the ultra violet social club, with cannabis corpse, Sumerian axe, fueled by fire, and D.A.F. It would be nice to see some of you there.

...and do what though I keep thinking.

we might as well be on the Coca Cola website on the one hand, the Hipster Gazette website on the other hand. sure we could talk about our favorite super-obscure underground punk rock bands or whatever, but I do that enough in RL that I come here, just like the new kids do, turrn right back around and go do it offline instead where it's easier, faster and we get more accomplished.

James really made a point of the isolation/rarity aspect of Black punk rockers in the film...but on the Afropunk (tm) website, here we are again, off in the corner, with the visual aspects ripped out and re-sold...the DIY punk rock subculture devalued and/or ignored invariably. (Damos quit channeling big words into my head) ...but why?

I have tried to think of ways to utilize even this little group to make a zine or whatever...but what we really need is to keep forming and joining bands. If there's still only 5 fuckin Black punk bands out there...not really much for Afropunk to cover every month, which might be the very reason it turned into Hipster-"punk". off the top of my head as far as punk bands on this site I can think, Pure Hell, Bad Brains, Death, The Objex, The Haterz, The Bots (or are they "garage?"), and Whole Wheat Bread...also the duo where the one guy wears a kilt. If I had a big shiny forum, or a budget for a magazine, I gotta admit I couldn't just cover those same bands over and over again for the sake of sticking to punk bands.

so I can't suggest much to this group...it's here open for use & like the anarchists like to remind us, we all have brains & don't need leaders to tell us what to do. I'm doing what I think I can contribute in my own life, trying to get my new music done & ready to distro... as far as this group goes...I guess at this point it's just another statement on just how much of a minority within a minority we are, not that we need another one. I'm too stoned to type anymore so bye.
