Is it worth it? I'm tired of carrying around my cell phone and iPod separately, so I'm considering getting the 32gb iPhone, but I'm not sure if it's worth getting since they seem to release a new one every summer or so, which means that the current new one with be obsolete pretty soon. I'm stomped!

Yeah i feel fucked because i bought mine in january. I could have waited and got twice the gigs for th half the money. Anyway go ahead and do the damn thing. The new phone software rocks.

It won't be obsolete, but someone else will have a faster/smaller/ more powerful one that holds more. You could wait 2 years and the same thing will happen.

I still trip out and laugh to myself about 32gigs on a phone or 4 gigs on a micro SD chip or even a USB drive. I still remember being stoked on a 100MB zip disk. "You mean it will hold 100 floppies worth of data???"

Even though I will probably never be one of them, I take my hat off to the early adopters. Not a fan of the touchscreen on the Iphone, but when the Blackberry is 75.00 out the door with month to month billing, I'm in.

I am planning on getting an Iphone later this summer but you know what? I'm still keeping my Ipod. Something about having EVERYTHING in ONE place scares the shit out of me. Especially the music part. I love my music. Personally I don't care to have to always have to new one when it's released every year but SFUFOs if it matters to you, then save up the money and do it. And who says it's obsolete? The review writers or your friends?

The Ipod I can understand, in terms of memory storage. I have a 60G and yes I have to admit it's almost full and I seriously thought about saving up my money to buy an 120G because a friend told me they have them now. But that's more a practical reason I want a new Ipod. I just ran out of room.

As for the phone......if it's gonna do more for you, then go for the new ones when they come out. But if it's just to have bragging rights, it' aint' worth spending all that much more money to get upgraded.

I don't understand the concerns about losing everything. All you would need to do is backup all your files onto your computer or a portable hard drive. The Iphone has to have a USB connection amongst all the other bells and whistles, right?

now, when you crack an iphone you'd be able to use it with a carrier other than AT&T right? my only objection to the iphone is the mandatory contract/s. fuck that.

My coworker said that he was able to use his old, really cheap family minutes plan by using an "unlocked" iphone and his sim card from his old phone. Totally unfamiliar with this, but it sounds relevant.

As far as I know all major carriers with "exclusive" phones rope you into a contract. Just an unlocked phone and use the sim card for the other network. You will pay a premium for it though.

Well, some times, I just get tired of carrying both of them around, it's something a burden. Plus, I just bought this Dell Netbook, so trying to fit my cell phone (Samsung Blackjack II) plus the iPod (80gb) and my netbook along with its wireless mini-mouse, a/c adapter, AT&T Wireless card and my 16gb flashdrive in this little bag is nerve racking. I heard the iphone has wifi capability like the new AT&T wireless card I just got in May, so I'm thinking of just getting the iPod so I can eliminate my iPod (Well not entirely, I'll still keep my 80gb iPod just for trips/plane rides, etc), Blackjack II plus my wireless card because you can tether (as in attach by USB the iPhone to the netbook and use it as a wireless card and still talk on the phone simultaneously because it's 3g enabled...plus I can manage my iTunes library from the same jack. I have a couple of other hangups about the iPhone. First, I'm so used to Windows Mobile on my phones (ever since the first blackjack back in 2006, so it'll be a major adjustment running the iPhone operating system, which is supposedly faster and less prone to lag/crashes than Windows Mobile, but it just doesn't make me fuzzy inside. Second, I hate, hate, hate, HATE (did I meantion "hate"?) touch screen phones, but what they're saying is that the latest iPhone is the pinnacle of touch screen phones as of right now, but I won't be able to text while I'm doing other stuff because you must utilize both hands while texting with most touch screen phones, at least until they perfect the ergonomics for one-hand or no-hand texting, lol. As for the "obsolete" hangup, I'll just feel like crap when Apple (and I KNOW they WILL) come out with some, like, 80gb iPhone for half the price as the 3gs is now, at Christmas time!

Now, the contract thing isn't a biggie for me because I already have AT&T, but you can pretty easily find an unlocked iPhone online or just buy one have a it unlocked, but be careful as this could potentially void the warranty if you have any issues with the device. If it's any consulation, I know like 10 ppl on the T-Mobile network who have the Blackberry Bold. Happy hunting and I'll let y'all know the verdict when I find out the price (I'm eligible for an upgrade, so it'll only be 2-300 for the phone, plus 70.00 for the apple warranty and another 50-75 for an up to date bluetooth, as opposed to 500 for just the phone).
