Soooo...anyone here into fashion?

i can't possibly be the only one. what do you like to wear, where do you like to shop, what inspires you to get dressed in the morning? i am really interested! after all it isn't as shallow as people make it seem, it's still a form of art and expression.

i am. i'm pretty cheap, but am willing to "invest" in "pieces".
i'm more into style/proportions/material/construction/tailoring v. fashion, trends, or fads.

srsly though i really need to invest in my core wardrobe. ive been hunting for super narrow girly black boots and have been coveting marsell and ld tuttle chunkyheeled textured booties or sandals, AND an all purpose/long term leather bag (leaning towards jas mb medium or large tie, jerome dreyfuss billy, and if i had the money givenchy nightingale easily).

...i'unno. like most things about me i bounce from extremes. i'm really into the few things i like while hating most of what exists.

just b/c you are 'cheap' doesn't mean you are not into fashion lol. well obvo style and fashion aren't the same but they go hand in hand. i'm kinda cheap also i love the thrift store haha but bouncing to extremes is good that means you like to experiment doesn't it?

I like looking at magazines and models on the net but I don't spend much money on clothes or shoes. I can appreciate it but I'm not sure if that means I'm into it.

aren't we all? :) for me it's about expression, what energy I feel on that day the season, the energy I want to attract, etc. I but things that look good on me and since I design, I alter almost everything to fit my personality, style. That's kinda what I think fashion is supposed to be about, your own sense of style...

I am but I'm poor so I cannot dress the way I want except like one day out of the whole year. Well, maybe for a week but other than that it's the good old functional t-shirt and jeans and athletic shoes. I just noticed I have so few things that go together and few outfits but 6 different pairs of heels in different colors. I need to make a 'la matching chart". Remember that bi-lingual children's book about the girl who teaches her father how to match clothes?

I need to plan out how to make a mix and match wardrobe consisting of a few pieces. Like Stacy and Clinton always talk about. I love that show.

It is art and expression just like make up is to play up what you have not to create a mask. But people only know that.

I'm hell bent on looking my age and finding things that play on my shape and create the right shape. That gets me up. And the color black. And round toe baby doll pumps.

I love bright colors (neons) despite being heavily into black lace and other "gothic" textures.

Right now, I'm having a break through. I've discovered how to look well put together and express individuality rather than look trashy but my "well put together" is still very trashy because it's mostly short and/or tight and usually involves high heels.

I've taken a break from thrift stores. I used to go with my wife, but it'd only take me ten minutes to sift through the men's stuff, and she could easily spend well over an entire hour, dreaming up things and browsing around.

Always the same thing when I go. If I see a nice blazer, I grab it, but there's not much to choose from because men's fashion is rather unimaginative compared to the garments that women can play with. Shirt, pants, shoes, jacket -- figure I might as well shop online and find exactly what I want, rather than make do with what I find at the thrift stores. Besides, I rarely find pants my size or shirts that don't make me look like a ship sail.

I'm more likely to invest in staple pieces; I tend to window-shop exhaustively to find things online that most closely resemble a vision in my head. In an ideal world, I'd be mistaken for a wool-clad space pirate just passing through (all dunebuggied out), but my resources are limited.

On the tail end of a pastel phase. Still love bright colors (especially yellow and colors that contrast well with black/grey), but I got tired of feeling noticed all the time (and people seeming more inclined to encroach upon my personal space), so I had to give it a rest. In an earth tone rut right now, primarily because I'm broke.

In the future, there will be more monochrome.

Grateful that the fitted shirt thing came back along -- being "effeminately thin" has been frowned upon in my circle for as long as I can remember, and I grew up dressing like a surgery patient to hide my frame. I hope motocross-inspired/military-inspired jackets never go anywhere -- I think they're too sleek to deserve a backlash. Haven't worn jeans in the last seven years; they feel like straight jackets for the legs...

Appearance isn't everything, as they say, but it's definitely a useful art. Or a science. And I'm all for non-verbal communication.

MAYNE! I have a love/hate relationship with fashion. I'm glad I'm in Austin now because everyone here does whatever they want. I mean we have Leslie for goodness' sake...and no one complains but embraces him/her in his/her thongs on a bicycle...
I'm actually thinking of starting a blog about Austin fashion because it's true when you're here everything is different.

About my relationship with fashion
I bought my first pair of skinny jeans in '98 in a thrift shop. At the time, I lived in a small Texas town and I got mocked because they weren't bell bottomed. I quit wearing them because all stinkin' day I was pointed at and it just got annoying! Then a few years later....they are all the rage!
When everyone was into the half-framed barely there glasses I was wearing the Weezer glasses and I was bashed, not as much as the skinny jeans but still laughed at.
We all knew the '80s were coming back...so I started wearing neon colors again. You know where I'm going with this...
A few years ago I was digging in my ma's closet and found these awesome boots and thin, slinky mini dress. I wore them with some tights and great jewelry to a fashion show of all places and was avoided like the plague.
Now, I've toned down my style to more of an Audrey Hepburn sleek look and I'm too conservative in this crazy town ^-^ but like I said no one cares in Austin as long as you're genuine.

It seems that if you're going to make a statement (which was never my goal) then it has to be an ''in'' statement. Else, you have a parade of people behind you drawing more attention to how ''ridiculous'' you look and I'm just not that into fashion to forge ahead. I have other things that I'm more passionate about and more willing to stand up to mockery for. Being called out and laughed at is tiring and you have to pick your battles.
I've never aimed to 'fit in' with what I wear but it's crazy when you're followed and mocked; when you can hear people laughing at you behind your back. It makes you angry inside that people are that shallow and I'm not an angry person. I don't think the world is full of evil people. When I was dressing in a way that drew so much attention it made me feel angry at the world and I didn't care for that.

i love fashion and been revamping my clothes since i was a pre teen i don't care 2 much 4 trends but the power of self expression i love punk vintage and glam. my everyday is jeans and baby tees but i love accesories and how different colors and gemstones represent different moods and powers. u should start a fashion group that would b "wreckless" (new slang /via Kenna) :)

I hear that. If fashion visuals weren't so important to me, a forgotten art and weren't such a useful tool I wouldn't bother. But I could never see myself not dressing the way I want if I could.

I started wearing black lace (floral pattern) stockings early last year. I wasn't mocked, if I was I didn't notice and bam! now they're back in fashion.

I have a few questions... :]

what makes you uncomfortable?
i can't stand pants (that aren't supposed to be capris or cutoffs) flooding on me and exposing my ankles/socks while wearing a regular pair of pants, i don't mind it on other people... but i thought it was funny how neurotic i am about it with me and it all has to do w/ growing up poor and not having clothes that fit right, especially on my skinny, gangly legs. haha.

what makes other people uncomfortable?
upper body harnesses, corsets (something about tourniquets). genderfuckery. severe and austere in public.
there's a hard element of timelessness, the untouched, ethereal, and death (but not in an obv goth way...) in the way i'd like to dress...if that makes any sense...and i hope that makes other people feel uncomfortable. :]
