I don't think I like the tone of this p.s.a. Disagreeing with Obama's healthcare reform or even him in general is one thing. But making light of or perhaps using this country's race problem which is still very real to launch a campaign against something you diagree with is rubbing me the wrong way. A disturbing trend could be developing here. What do y'all think?

Doesn't Jimmy Carter's statement kind contradict this whole thing? I mean where does a pro Obama statement fit into this?

I mean, the racial animosity towards the health care bill doesn't stand with the fact that people who think the opposed hate it because it's being pushed by a black man, but the fact that the black and other racial supporters think that the opposed are racist because they don't want to put out any tax money for the public option which helps the poor who can't afford health insurance right? Which comes down to the fact that Black, Hispanic, minorities are synonymous with "poor" and can't afford health insurance, which loops right back into the fact that the people who oppose Obama's bill are racist because they don't want to help the less fortunate.

But that Jimmy Carter quote doesn't work for them, that works against them, you dumb asses I don't get why they would use that since it's just saying that socially retarded conservatives, republican, whites, are showing blatant hate towards Obama just because YES The fact that he's a black man.

But that feeds up to their whole, "I'm not racist" followed by the "But I believe the white race is superior" Stormfront time crap.

I think they're mocking Carter -- the backdrop for his presidency was also a recession, and the general sentiment at the time (or so I've read) is that people considered him to be inept and incapable (outside of his preaching about simplied living). I think the intention is to draw parallels between how people felt about the two and their "crisis-coping skills", to make the presentation appear less racist.
If they're mocking him, it still doesn't work in their favor. This is just another one of those, "No not me" type things, where they try hard to prove they aren't racist, but still comes off as very.

Not sure if "they" know that or not, but that's what makes white guilt so amusing to me. And again, the meaning changes depending on the audience. This is probably more for other whites to feel better about not wanting to feel guilty, as opposed to a wholehearted make-nice gesture designed to convince non-whites that those expressed political sentiments are not rooted in notions of race.

That's how I read into it, anyway...

dunno why but even though the point of the thing is that these people are supposedly not racist, it gave me the same feeling as when I went over this Polish guys house when I was 21 and his father goes: "Calvin, you're Black...what do YOU think about the police?" he was doing related activist work, but I didn't know that & it was the first time I met him lol

I guess they just tried to hard. I think this PSA was a waste of time, money, and what little intelligence most Americans have who still watch TV on a regular basis.

I think this right here is hitting the nail on the head. What these people fail to realize is that this healthcare reform is so much bigger than Obama. Due to systematic inequalities that are still very much a part of the American infrastructure a disproportinate amount of minorities do not have the proper health coverage and coincidentally have most of the health problems. So to oppose something that will possibly "level the playing field" in some way is in fact very racist.(This is what I think Jesse Jackson was getting at with his heavyhanded statement as well. Nothing to do with Obama.)

Yet again, a sizeable portion of White America continues to show how smug, insensitive and ultimately clueless they really are. Bravo!

a) 12% is not the overwhelming majority of American citizens in any way... and

b) White-based hate groups have risen dramatically since Obama won the election.

So while people may not be racist for not agreeing with Obama's the Democrats' healthcare plan (c'mon, Obama didn't mastermind that all by himself) it doesn't mean we shouldn't be on the watch for racism and racist acts as whole.

Watch the original on youtube and see the comments on there! Wow! The honesty that comes from anonymity is often times very disheartening. Anyway, this PSA is just baiting, it doesn't serve a purpose, offer facts or solutions. I refuse to get pissed off about it - not worth it.
Blessings - D. Scott
For such candid honesty, you can thank fat, white-bellied, lurking, bitter cretins who have all the time in the world to jerk off on the internet. Smarter people who's time is more valueble simply don't have time for such bullshit.
