so this girl i know got braid extensions, you know just indivdual braids but she wants locks, i told her she should just not take out the braids and palm roll the new growth, but i wanted to make sure that was correct.
so has anyone done the method she has?

yeah i started my locs w/ palm rolling it just depends on her hair. she should go see a professional if she's worried until she get the hang of caring for her own hair

hmm she's worried about the extension part falling off when she palm rolls it.
i gave her your suggestion tho, thanks.

I would take the extensions out. If she was intent on keeping the extension and having instand long dreads, the extension may dread to her hair...and that usually looks pretty terrible. best bet is to palm roll or two-strand twist. If she starts them from braids, sometimes even years later you can still see the braided part apart from the dread part and it looks kinda funky.

I started my dreads a couple months back after cutting off my hair, and was lucky enough to have people in the know around to help me out in the initial stages. I'd say cut off the extensions, she clearly wants a different look now anyways.
