is anyone planning on seeing or have seen the Mariah Carey (wtf? i know) movie "Precious" i know it's based on a book, but i've never read it. has anyone here ever read or or have seen the movie.

My wife wanted to see it over the holiday and I told her that I just wasn't up for it. I'm feeling you MPG on your posts about the flick - I'm getting tired of Oscar accolades for films that bolster deep seated beliefs about people of color, and films that show our humaity and foibles getting such short shrift.

Charles Burnett should have gotten an Oscar years ago for Killer of Sheep. Other "slices of life" movies that dified convention and got nothing, "George Washington," "One False Move," and "Eve's Bayou" pop into my head.

More balanced offerings at the box office maybe would not make this film so noteable?

Keeping it brief, my opinion is a bit opposite of Kifaru. I thought the direction and cinematography were well done but the subjects were slightly hackneyed and brushed over. Performances were good; the girls in the class with Precious outstanding in their suppoting roles.
