Is there anyone on AP who likes some metal? I know there is a group , but what I want to know is, what are your favorite bands and how did you get into metal?

Metal fan here. Not a head, but still a fan. I got into it when I was 16, after hearing "Got The Life" by Korn. From there I got into harder stuff like Slipknot, Metallica, Mudvayne, etc. These days I prefer thrash metal over the harder stuff, but I'll still blast and rock out to some Lamb of God from time to time. A few bands I like are: Slipknot, Mudvayne, Metallica, Megadeth, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Soilwork, Ill Nino (are they still around?), Kitty (yes I like them, sue me), Shadows Fall, Rage Against The Machine, Type O Negative. I'm sure there's plenty more, but it's late and i'm sleepy.

Yes , just view my profile , more seriously I'm into 70ies and 80ies metal especially, thrash, speed, heavy, doom, death also, and hard rock , glam ( Motley Crue, Ratt, Guns'N Roses)..;check a magazine called SNAKEPIT if you are curious or like that era ( 70ies -80ies).;and for Afro metal addicts, bands like Hirax, Znowhite, Black Death, Sound Barrier, Suffocation (ok it's the 90ies) should be known

Forgot a part of the answer, my favourite bands..too many to quote, but Hirax, Sound Barrier, Riot, Sortilege, High Power, early Metallica, Motorhead, Kreator, Sadistic Intent, Death, Immolation & Incantation, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Possessed, Trouble, Count Raven,Accept, Skorpions (early), Witchfinder General, Guns' N Roses, Motley Crue ( the 2 first albums), Girlschool, Savage Grace, Derketa are a few...How I got there? Some television broadcasts featuring Van Halen, Kiss or ACDC, and meeting some metal heads in highschool who introduced me to Iron Maiden, then Accept, Metallica, then Slayer and Dark Angel, that was more than 20 years ago (yes I'm a dinosaur)

Metal isn't my main thing. I'm more of a post-punk dude. I would hear certain joints growing up but I really didn't start to respect metal or get into it until after I started playing guitar. I tend to lean towards the more "mathy" side of the genre-bands like Botch and Dillenger Escape Plan. But I also like Between the Burried and Me, Isis, Mastodon, some stuff I heard by Cephallic Carnage, Shadows Fall, and God Forbid. I also still listen to the classic artist like old Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, and Black Sabbath.

There are plenty.

Listening to the radio, Looking at album covers, reading graffiti, flyers and zines. Lots of good bands mentioned. I would add
Exodus and Heathen to the listo.

I got into metal in junior high back in 92. A friend of mine let me listen to Metallica on our way to a basketball game to get me crunk. Of course things had to get heavier and extreme. Im now into Possessed, Sadistic Intent, Conqueror, Slayers first 3 albums, Blasphemy, Diocletian, Bathory and much more
