Afro-punk

As we close out the year, I'd like to ask what were the best moments in music, film, politics, whatever. I wanted to pose this question so I could discover things I maybe had never heard or seen...

I'll start:
Music - MJ's This Is It and cypher with Black Thought, Mos Def and Eminem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4SQ8QBJUaI
Film - Angels & Demons and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (I know cheese)
Politics - Other than swearing in of Obama I have a lot of "worse" moments, not enough "best"....
Games - haven't played this year. :-/ that must change in '10
YouTube phenomenon - inmate performance of Thriller (even though it was posted earlier, it was resurrected in this year) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMnk7lh9M3o&feature=player_embedded
"insert random category at your discretion"

Gotta go back to work! lol

Best ov...? Says who? I find all such "best ov" lists to be irrevelant, since most people have the shittiest taste imaginable.

And what would be, say, the best album? Jay-Z's Blueprint? Alot ov people might say so. But what if you don't like Jay-Z? Or Rap all together? Well, maybe if enough people say so, i suppose that makes it "the best". But this really isn't about "the best", so much as "what's most popular", is it?

Btw, wasn't "This is It" a shamelessly cobbled together 2 hour long music video shoved out right after MJ commited suicide?

Whooooa there! It ain't that deep. :-)

This isn't a People's Choice/Oprah declares best of or voting type deal. I'm just trying to get different perspectives on what they thought was the best of '09. If you think an underground metal album was the best music of '09 I thought it would be cool to share that on a board where people all over can find out about things we never would have heard/seen otherwise.

As for This Is It, as a musician, I had an amazing experience seeing MJ from behind the curtain. It gave me another perspective of what it means to be an artist. The politics of the release is a whoooooole other story.

wit the the exception of Japandroids and Silversun Pickups ( cuz I aint never listen to them) I second. except that Antony and the Johnsons: The Crying Light is the Best Record of 2009. Better than any movie, TV show, cataclysmic celeb showdown or sex tape and better than any other album for that matter ;)
