Afro-punk

Afro-punk

I have to ask, because this year's show was my first exposure to the Afropunk scene and I saw some rather funky outfits and accessories that probably aren't on the racks of the more mainstream retail joints. While some of the gear was a bit beyond me, I wouldn't mind incorporating some of the A-P elements into my own personal style.

So...where do you get your gear?

I think folks wear whatever they feel... not following any trends or whatever, just what they visualize their style to be. I've seen some creative outfits around, and at AP events it's no exception! LOL
Personally, I go to places where clothes are cheap... thrift stores, stores with sales, etc. I haven't gone "shopping" in years.

Some areas that are fond to me are in the Village, Soho, Housing Works on 23rd St, the Salvation Army on 46th St and 10th Ave., and independent clothing stores like Harriet's Alter Ego (when I can FUCKING AFFORD A PIECE IN THERE, that is).

Lately I've been into methods of making my own clothes, like skirts and dresses and stuff. But since you're a guy... maybe you can do something like screen printing t-shirts with your own unique message.

Thanks for the heads up.

I think what happen here is that I'm in a pit of fashion quicksand. I used to have some semblance of flava, but I think that my job kinda stymied that has I have to wear some rather drab shiz to look "presentable" to vendors and it spilled over into my personal life. Time to reclaim the closet!
