!!! AGAINST THE GRAIN: POST YOUR UNPOPULAR OPINIONS !!!

It's BACK!

An all time great thread from the AP 1.0 foundation.

Massive props goes to the originator Onomatrix who brought us this powerful forum, inspired by by a forum on Playahata.com (if I'm correct). Ono, get on here and set it off with your unique perspective.

Objective: express the opinions that would normally get your run out of town if vocalized or presented. Example:

= Obama is not the best candidate but he's all we've got

= Black folks are our own worst enemy

= Women are too emotional

= Men are too emotionless

= Censorship is a good idea

= All women with perms hate their natural selves

= All men with dreads date white women

= Folks under 30 don't know anything about good music

= Chocolate owns vanilla

= J-Dilla couldn't touch Premeir, Large Pro, Pete Rock or Dre

...and so on (disclaimer: all the above examples do NOT represent my personal views, one or two maybe...).

This is not a place for full on debate & violent conflict, but please be free in how you express. And keep the page long flame-wars to private messages and off the boards.

Ready? Let's go!

I hate utopian ideals because they are so unrealistic and silly. But if AP is "that way" now it explains people getting their pink panties in a bunch whenever someone has a strong opinion and they can't be bothered to counter with their own because it's all about peace, harmony, love and hippie bullshit. I knew the change to ning would cause something like this. People who think AP is just a facebook instead of a place of opinions.

Oh, Gosh, sorry for having opinions- I should chill because no one wants to listen or do any headwork- they just want to chill like potheads who sit in their basement smoking and vegetate because they want to "chill".

Words cannot even described how lame and pointless a facebook AP is.

Sometimes I forget that there's basically two camps on this site: those who're here for the discussion boards, and those who use their personal page as an avenue for self-promotion and networking. I don't think that one's worse than the other, but I've my own personal leanings (it takes a type of person to desire the adoration that comes with setting up a personal shrine, just as a takes a certain type to care little about that ).

The friends page function is still sort of an oddity to me; I doubt I could find it, but I'm thinking of one of Jahluv's comments about it, around the time AP switched over to Ning. I usually don't "friend" folks who have zero discussions, 'cause it makes me think they sought out my page to add another "fan" to theirs. Lotsa cute people on this site, but that bores me (there's tons of other places for that). I think I may need to be less polite (again) about creating these superficial ties with folk whom I know obviously have no intention of taking part in a "discussion."

My opinion on this current discussion of opinions and online intellectualism? Besides it not making a lick of sense....I'm over it too.

You can have the 2,300 characters in your post proving why your right, but the minute you insert that personal attack, it's a basically a big "fuck you, this is why I'm superior than you, and heres why you fail etc.." You've completley lost their attention, now they'll skim over your bullshit and stoop to your level. Congrats.

I was called a sexist muthafucka once.....goddamn it was funny.

What doesn't make sense about it?

God/Satan/somebody bless me if I came here every day to get compliments on my looks and my shoes.

I'm just done with it, and like you suggested, I'll simply not read what'll get me all up in arms. Like a "hippy".

The bickering and personal attacks do drive new (and old) people away. I hope all the new people are chatting amongst themselves via messages, comments and the like.
I'm really enjoying all the Christmas lights that people have put up. Even the people that do a little too much and make their house look like a boss' hideout from a super nintendo game.

this is against the grain for me right now versus my feelings/thoughts in past years...

:] I guess the ambivalence has turned into, "oh that's nice that someone put in some effort, i bet they have kids."

^^People who *never* argue are not my kind of people because I go/work properly when I fight. I don't "go along to get along" I have my opinions and because I have opinions does not make it "arguing". I'm trying to get a message across..

And that's why you love me soooo much. Right back at ya.
